My name is Nancy Valencia and I am running in the March 3, 2020 election to represent District 4 on the Board of Education of Long Beach Unified School District.

Born and raised in Long Beach, I attended Long Beach Unified schools and graduated from California State University, Long Beach. My husband and our three adult children also proudly attended and graduated from LBUSD schools.

I have worked with K-12 students for over 25 years including experience as a former teacher in Long Beach Unified School District and Norwalk-La Mirada School District, and presently as a substitute in LBUSD classrooms. I have actively served our community as PTA President at two LBUSD schools — Horace Mann Elementary School and Signal Hill Elementary School — as well as LBUSD AmeriCorps Site Supervisor, Long Beach Immigrant Rights Coalition Board member, and I am a longtime member of First Congregational Church of Long Beach.

Since 2004, I have worked as the Executive Director of DAYS Long Beach, a nonprofit that annually serves hundreds of students in Long Beach providing supplemental educational opportunities throughout the year. Early in my career I worked at a Long Beach halfway house for incarcerated women and while there, I partnered with Long Beach City College, to provide the first court recognized parenting course for residents who were on parole to help prepare them for reunification with their families.

I believe strongly in the power of education to improve the lives of Long Beach students and their families. If you would like to learn more, please JOIN. You can also donate to the campaign ONLINE.
