Juan Benitez, the representative for Long Beach Unified School District’s Trustee Area 3, announced his support for Nancy Valencia, executive director of local nonprofit DAYS Long Beach, this week.

Valencia will go up against Long Beach City College board member Doug Otto and Davina Keiser, a retired LBUSD teacher, in the race for the Distict 4 seat. That seat represents Catalina Island and a large southeastern swath of Long Beach, stretching northwest and including Signal Hill.

If no candidate wins 50% of the vote, a runoff would be scheduled for Nov. 3.

Valencia announced Benitez’s support for her candidacy along with a swath of other endorsements on Sunday, Jan. 19. Those other endorsements include the local chapter of California School Employees Association and a former Wilson High principal.
